Salads are a great meal choice if you are trying to lose weight and stay healthy. Cutting back on carbs and increasing your intake of greens is the easiest way to boost your overall health, but a lot of people get bored with salads and find it hard to stick to a healthy eating plan.

However, salads don’t have to be boring if you use the right toppings. These are some of the most delicious salad toppings that are also great for your health. 

Steamed Salmon 

Salmon is one of the best health foods there is. It’s high in protein, low in calories, it’s packed with vitamin D and C, and has lots of omega-3. Adding more oily fish to your diet is one of the best ways to improve your overall health, which is why salmon is a brilliant topping for your salads. It’s also one of the surprising foods that are good for your teeth, which is an extra bonus. There are a lot of ways to cook salmon, but steaming it is the healthiest. 

Raw Vegetables 

People seriously underestimate how delicious raw vegetables can be, and they’re so healthy for you. When you boil vegetables, you lose a lot of the water soluble vitamins. Even if you bake or steam them instead, some of the nutrients are broken down by the heat, so raw vegetables are actually the healthiest for you. They can also be a very tasty addition to a salad, just take a look at this Mediterranean cauliflower salad, for example. Most vegetables can be eaten raw and if you dice them up or even put them in a food processor, they’re a great topping for a salad that adds so much nutritional value. Bulking up salads with raw vegetables fills you up too, so you are less likely to overeat. 

Nuts And Seeds 

Getting a good amount of protein into your diet is important if you want to maintain a healthy weight. It’s also a central part of your recovery if you exercise regularly. Nuts and seeds are some of the healthiest sources of protein there is, and they also contain healthy fats and all sorts of great vitamins and nutrients. Using nuts in salads is particularly good because they add a lot of texture and a different kind of flavor, making your meals a lot more interesting. 

Tofu 

Tofu has grown in popularity so much over the last few years, mainly as a meat alternative for people that eat a vegan or vegetarian diet. However, it is also a great healthy topping for salads. Tofu is very low in fat and very high in protein, so it fills you up. You can fry tofu to give it a nice crisp on the outside but if you want a healthier option, you can also bake it in the oven. Even though tofu doesn’t have much flavor on its own, it’s a great flavor carrier so you can add all sorts of herbs and spices to make it delicious.
