5 Baby Registry Checklist Must-Haves for First-Time Parents

With a baby on the way, I know it can feel like there are always a million things to do! You can easily get overwhelmed especially if this is your first child. Every time I scratch one thing off my to-do list I swear I add ten new ones! One of the most important things you can do is take charge of your baby registry and choose those key items you will need right away. Trust me, family members and friends will be quick to buy a gazillion cute little onesies and anything adorable they are drawn to that is baby-sized. There are some things though that they might not get you, such as a baby monitor (you can check out a website like https://mommyhood101.com/best-video-baby-monitors-2018-ratings to help you find the best one as well). But there are other things that you need to get as well.
So I’ve created this list of the 5 baby registry checklist must-haves for first-time parents so you get the stuff you so desperately need!

Diapers

The first thing that always comes to mind when I think of babies are diapers. Much of your life in these early weeks involves changing diapers, so make sure you put diapers on your registry! I chose Pampers® Swaddlers because not only did they come highly recommended by my friends, but they are also the #1 choice of hospitals, nurses and parents. Swaddlers are super soft and perfect for newborns. The soft stretchy sides give them a flexible fit and the quilted, blanket-like softness wraps your baby in comfort and security. With up to 12 hours of overnight protection and their reliable wetness indicator, Swaddlers are the softest diaper out there. Plus there is an umbilical cord notch in the newborn size.

Since it was a part of my registry, we incorporated Pampers® Swaddlers at our baby shower by having our guest write sweet and funny messages on the outside of the diaper. We’ll save these and make a fun piece for the baby’s room. Then when we’re up at 3 am with the little one, we can get a nice chuckle or a word of encouragement!

Infant Car Seat

You literally cannot take your baby home from the hospital without a car seat, so this is an absolute must for your registry! For a newborn, you have two choices: a rear-facing infant seat designed to be used until your baby weighs around 20 pounds, or a convertible seat, which can face rear or front, designed to be used by both babies and older children. I personally chose a convertible car seat so that it would last longer and grow with my baby. I noticed that a lot of my friend’s kids were on the bigger side growth wise and quickly grew out of their rear-facing infant seat. Babies are of course going to be messy, so I would also make sure that the car seat you choose is easy to clean!

Stroller or Baby Carrier

Whether you are team stroller or team baby carrier, you are going to want to be able to take your baby out of the house for the first time! Strollers are what we most associate with moms on the go. This is why you should check out this guide titled, ‘the best luxury stroller 2019‘. Baby carriers help babies feel loved and snuggled in a warm womb-like environment. I strongly suggest putting both of these items on your baby registry as I consider them both must-haves! There are so many wonderful options and styles, so don’t be afraid to have fun with color. Plus, think how cute hubby will look with your little one in a baby carrier. That has major Instagram moment written all over it!

Cute Newborn Coming Home Outfit

Of course, you are going to want to capture that first special moment starring your newborn as he or she leaves the hospital, so make sure you register for a few cute options that you can pack in your hospital bag. Bring a newborn size and a size up just in case! You want to choose something that is appropriate for the current season and is made of soft, breathable fabrics for babies sensitive skin. Also opt for stretchy arm, leg and neck openings that are easy on and easy off. The last thing you want to do is upset your baby by trying to squeeze them into some ridiculous over the top outfit. Keep it simple and cute and be sure to wash anything you bring for your baby with special baby detergent.

Crib and Crib Mattress

Your babies sleep is of the utmost importance, so you want to create a wonderful environment for them to do so! If you decide to use a crib, be sure you also have a crib mattress, get a new mattress topper and crib sheet. You have to get ready for those nursery Instagram moments!

I hope you enjoyed this article sponsored by Pampers® Swaddlers. I wish you the best of luck as you embrace this new adventure and the blessed addition of your little one! My little man is due July 15th, so I’m officially on BABY WATCH!! I will continue to document my journey and share helpful tips, so please keep checking back.

  1. We have thrown multiple diaper showers for our friends because a.) it’s a no brainer gift and b.) those little things are expensive!

  2. These are definitely all must-have’s with a newborn!! I ended up buying both my infant carseat and stroller before I had my baby shower because of the NSALE and getting to take advantage of the great discounts on both. You are so close to meeting your baby boy! Good luck mama and congrats!
