12 Ways to Treat Bug Bites

I recently came home from the Hamptons with a whopping 36 bug bites!  I was reminded how brutal mosquitoes on the east coast can be and how much they love me.  I took to Facebook to crowd source suggestions on how to get rid of the terrible itching and misery.  The response was overwhelming, so I curated this list on ways to treat bug bites for you! And I decided to leave some of the personal stories and fun notes .

Bathe in Salt Water

Bug bites (such as from mosquitos and chiggers) can be bathed in salt water to reduce itchiness and swelling. If you are allergic to bee stings or other bug bites, it’s important to seek immediate medical attention.

I googled my friend’s suggestion and found multiple articles claiming nail polish seals off the bite and stops itching.  Please comment below if this has worked for you!

Grandpa’s Wonder Pine Tar Soap

My friend’s story:

So…. two summers ago I was innocently drinking wine on a rooftop in Charleston. I know I had been bitten, but it wasn’t until we got into the light that we realized I had over 100 bites.   1. I will try my best to share this article with my wife. The bugs like to bite her whenever she is in the back yard or just taking a walk, while they ignore me. So I believe some of the suggestion above will help. Thank you for sharing.

  2. I just came back from Croatia with exactly 11 mosquito bites! They are itching like mad but they look like they’re on the last phase now and are going down a little bit. I wish I’d read this article sooner!

  4. Yikes that’s a lot of bites! Mosquitos are bad on the east coast, I notice them swarming when I go to visit my parents. I started using essential oils this year for bug bites and they have worked wonders. Great suggestions here.

  5. Wow, who knew there were so many ways to treat an insect bite. I’ve never heard of the past remedy. i’ll have to give that one a try.

  6. I have heard of several of these natural treatments from my grandmother. She would talk about using toothpaste while out on the trail. There are so many things that you can use for bites.
